Planning an OTDR Calibration or Service Request

This older guide is awaiting technical review. Confirm model specifications, test requirements and service terms with our team before making a decision.

Planning an OTDR Calibration or Service Request

A calibration request should define the instrument and the measurement requirements. Share the OTDR make, exact model, serial number, relevant modules and any fault symptoms with the Jekath team before arranging transport.

Calibration and repair are different requests

If the instrument has a fault, damaged connector, unusual trace or power problem, describe it explicitly. Do not assume that calibration includes repair, cleaning, new parts, software options or every accessory. Agree the scope and any inspection charges before work begins.

Confirm the evidence your project requires

Check the instrument manufacturer guidance and the customer or project quality requirements. Tell the service team what measurements, documentation, traceability or accreditation evidence is required. Confirm that the proposed scope can meet that requirement; a generic certificate description is not enough.

Plan timing without assuming a fixed interval

  • Review your instrument history, manufacturer recommendations and applicable project requirements when planning the next check.
  • Agree the completion estimate after the team reviews the model, condition, scope and current schedule.
  • Ask how an unexpected fault or replacement part would affect cost and timing.
  • Keep a record of the agreed scope and the returned documentation.

Arrange handover with the team

Confirm the handover location, packaging, transport responsibility and the accessories to include. Back up your project records before sending equipment. Do not send account passwords or confidential network access details with a public service enquiry.
